Sharing The Good News This Season

by Alissa

When I was young my mother would take my two younger siblings and me to the grocery store, every Friday. We didn’t mind going as we indulged in various samples. She would make her way around the store picking out groceries and spending hours in conversations with the people at the store. She loved talking to everyone and becoming acquainted to them. Soon these “strangers” knew each of my siblings by name and everything about us and we looked forward to seeing them at the store!

My mother is the same today. She knows the tellers at the bank, the pharmacists at the drug store, and the cashiers at the grocery store. She not only knows them by name, but she knows their story. There are times my mother calls me telling me she made a new friend at a store, asking for prayer that God would give her the opportunity to share the gospel the next time she sees her new acquaintance. She prepares a special bag or an envelope for them, to tell them about the best gift to receive is not in the bag or envelope but Hope in our Savior.

Christmas gives us many opportunities to share the gospel with those we encounter, if we just ask our Father to give us eyes to see those occasions. Our Messiah came into the world not to be hidden selfishly, but to be shared with the world.  It is remarkable to think about how God wove together every detail—people, times, and places to usher His redemption in Christ. Mary carried the gift to redeem God’s creation. She didn’t know every detail what Jesus would accomplish on earth, but she did know He was the Messiah—coming to rescue the world. Mary did not question God’s plan or why He chose her. Instead, she chose to trust God more than her uncertainties, questions, or fears.

In Luke 1: 38 Mary proclaims, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”

How can you head into this Christmas season TRUSTing God to share the good news with those around you? Perhaps God has a plan for you to share Joy and Hope this season with someone around you. You might feel inadequate or out of your comfort zone, that’s ok! That’s exactly where God wants you, trusting Him to  see our Lord doing extraordinary things through ordinary people Like YOU!
